Are marijuana and alcohol equal in their effect? Should marijuana be legalized?

Marijuana and alcohol are equal in their effect in that they are both depressants.  However each drug is used in different situations.  Marijuana is done at the end of the day to help one wind down while alcohol is used as a gateway to loosening up to do other stuff.  With likely activity following, there is more of a chance for dangerous activity.  Marijuana can result in dangerous follow-up activity too but again, most don’t plan to do anything until after the buzz has subsided. I think marijuana should be legalized.  It would introduce regulation and possibly safety.  It’s time to acknowledge its use so why not introduce some control to minimize negative outcomes?
